Fiona Duffy
Tough Guy & Ironman-in-Training!
I’m a middle aged mum of two – and journalist – determined to a) stave off old age and creaking joints and b) show my children that anything is possible. I was the archetypal clumsy, chubby, ‘useless at PE’, ‘last on sports day’ child at school. Since taking up running 13 years ago I’ve completed seven marathons – just failing to beat my goal of 3.30 by a whisker. (My best time was 3.30 and 27 seconds… the costliest loo stop ever).
Moving on, I discovered the joys of triathlon. I’ve completed various sprint events, one Olympic distance, and a Half Ironman. I now have my sights set on Ironman UK 2014 and will be updating this blog regularly as an incentive.
Another event on my to-do list was Tough Guy. I completed both the summer and winter events as research for an article in Runner’s World magazine – to see which one was truly harder. You can read the article on this blog. The results might surprise you…
I still can’t sprint for toffee but I can ‘plod on’ for ever. And it’s the ‘getting there’ that counts.
I work from home as a freelance journalist – writing for publications including the Daily Mirror, Express, Mail, Sunday Express magazine, Prima, Woman, Runner’s World and Triathlon Plus.
Thanks for reading!
Wow Fiona ! You’ve completed more marathons than iv had hot dinners. I look forward to trying to keep up with your training blog. Go tuffy,go tuffy,go tuffy…..
You can do it Duffy Moon! (Even if you are as mad as a box of frogs! 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride followed by a marathon?! I’m exhausted just writing that!). I’m in awe of your drive and determination. Go, girl!
