Well, I’ve finally got my head around the fact that, this summer, I’m doing an Ironman. It’s taken a while to sink in – and get used to the early morning alarm calls on Saturday/Sunday mornings for epic bike rides but it’s become routine now.
I’ve had my fair share of injuries (including a damaged rotator cuff and dodgy ankle), plus a week-long virus which left me out of action. I’ve also had regular flare-ups of IBS which have stopped me training. But, on the whole, I’m getting there.
Oh, and I also surprised myself (and hubby) by completing a bike maintenance course. I was pretty useless on the brake and gear adjusting – but at least I can fix a puncture now!
I’m up to 120k on the bike and 100 lengths of the pool – and just getting back to running again.
I’m also aware I’ll need to upgrade some kit before the big day. My wetsuit is like a boa constrictor – getting out of it takes at least 10 minutes. I also need to invest in some decent cycling shorts. I’ve noticed that as the mileage has increased it’s getting harder to stay, ahem, comfy, in the saddle. If anyone has any suggestions, please do let me know!
